cool, der YT link is ja gleich deine playlist. :D

whazzzup? I say: keep it up!!!
looking forward to whine and dine irgendwann nach dem 15.3. :D

Kommentare von Sate-one zu Interpreting Poetry – Today: Reg E. Gaines…

Thanks man, but I don't think that was much of an interpretation. I mean you just repeat what the poem says to begin with. You are simply telling us what we already know. Generally, I agree with you because you are stating what Reg E gaines wrote, such as "the red emblem of michael looked as if it could fly". No one can argue those comments. I just think that the overall message in this poem is not as mch about the agressor but also about the victim. This is about materialism that was climaxing in the early 90's among urban kids. The jordans were the utmost symbol of being fly back then. It just seems that it kept escalating until the pumps and the jordans became so popular.

So this poem is about the victim as well, in light of his dying, he was more concerned about his jordans, afterall he saw the gun and decided to run off instead of just handing them over. He risked his life fo those jordans, the other one is in the same boat risking it all for a pair of jordans. It is a message about our society at both ends. Someone is ready to kill for nothing others ready to die for nothing. I also see the message of these kids egos being entirely made up of something so materialistically simple that it can "pop, like a ten cent balloon"..a cheap balloon at that! So superficial it doesn't take much to break it. I think there is just alot more to this poem. I do like that you point out how pivotal the word "Fly" is in this poem. I however, think that when in reference to the emblem of michael it is used as almost a magical item to kids....like Wow.....
